Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsme>general (more info?)

I downloaded and installed IE6SP1 yesterday -- then
downloaded a cumulative patch, all of this from the
Windows Update website. Everything is fine except - now
when I open my "Help" from the Start menu I can't get
the "index" view. I can type in and search for certain
things -- but it won't give me the index view on the left
side of the screen to click on. On the right side of the
screen it says to select something from the left side --
but on the left side there is just a little square red and
blue microsoft looking icon in the corner but the rest is
blank -- no index.

Can anybody tell me how to get this back? Thanks for any
advice.
Brenda

If that doesn't help, post back.

Thanks Joan: After posting my mayday -- I went back to
the Windows Update site and downloaded two additional
Security Patches for Windows ME. Both dealt with an HTML
issue that seemed to be my problem with the Help program.

Even though I didn't understand a word of it, I downloaded
both security patches and one of them fixed my problem.
Phew !
Thanks for directing me to that site though -- I will
definitely use it in the future.

Brenda - you really need to make sure that you install ALL the 'Critical'
patches from Windows Update (the Recommended ones are up to you - pick and
choose as you want, but I'd say generally, that apart from the language
options, go for all the others, unless you want to restrict the Media Player
and/or DirectX for some reason)

Glad to hear you have your problem sorted out, and as Noel says make sure
you get all the critical updates for your machine.
