Archived from groups: microsoft>public>win98>gen_discussion (more info?)

I am working on an older generic Windows 98 system.

Every time I attempt to open my computer or some other
explorer window, I get the following error
"explorer has caused an error in module jnxvbemb.dll at
0177" and then explorer stops.

Have to reboot and attempt to open the item again.

Have already installed and ran adaware se, spybot sd,
hijackthis, and as far a I can tell got rid of all the
spyware on system.

I have googled this eerror and have found nothing on it
or the dll file, not even anything in the MS KB on this
either.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Find jnxvbemb.dll on your computer, rightclick on it, choose properties,
and see if there's any information about the origin of it.

If not, try to rename it, from safe mode, if necessary.

I have already found the file and it shows a modified
date of 4/23/99 so I didn't know if it was a valid file
or just some bogus dll!!

Does anybody have any ideas about this??

Thanks

Dwight

It doesn't have a version tab?

Google doesn't find anything, so I expect it to be bogus.

All I want to know is if someone knows if this is a valid
windows file or not. MS KB has no info on it, and
enither does Google. And with the modified date being
4/23/99, it appears to be during the same timeframe of
windows programing files

It's definitely not a windows file. Then you would have found it with
Google. There a dozens of sites with listings of the contents of all cab
files from all windows versions. See for instance
<www.skeeterbytes.com/pc/cabs/981.htm>

That files has a close resemblance to this parasite.

Ilookup: ebem.dll
<a rel="nofollow" style='text-decoration: none;' href="http://doxdesk.com/parasite/ILookup.html" target="_blank">http://doxdesk.com/parasite/ILookup.html</a>
Variants:
ILookup/Ineb is implemented by the file ineb.dll and connects to the site
i-lookup.com.
ILookup/Gws is implemented by the file gws.dll and connects to the site
globalwebsearch.com.
ILookup/Chgrgs is implemented by the file chgrgs.dll.
ILookup/Abeb is implemented by the file abeb.dll and connects to the site
superwebsearch.com.
ILookup/Bmeb is implemented by the file bmeb.dll and connects to the site
traffichog.com.
ILookup/Sbus is implemented by the file sbus.dll and connects to the site
searchbus.com.
ILookup/Drbr is implemented by the file drbr.dll and connects to the site
globaltoolbar.com.

Files installed: Ineb.dll, GWS.dll, Chgrgs.dll, abeb.dll, bmeb.dll,sbus.dll and
drbr.dll.

Also you mentione running all the spyware/hijacker detectors/removers but you didn't
mention running a full system virus scan.
